It was a terrible day on the Island of Sodor and the engines were finding life difficult. The workmen are repairing the viaduct on the Main Line. The arches needed strengthening but Sir Topham Hatt didn't want to close the railway while the work was done and so repairs took a very long time. The engines had to take great care when crossing the viaduct and the delay often made them late at the junction where they knew Thomas would be ready to collect his passengers. At Kellsthrope Station, Thomas was very cross. Percy, who was waiting for the mail and packages to be loaded into his vans, was looking worried. "Why do you look so cross, Thomas? Sounds like you wanted to complain about something." "Time's time, Percy," Thomas complained. "Why should I keep my passengers waiting while Henry and James dawdle all day on viaducts?" Henry, who arrived with an express passenger train, heard Thomas and Percy's conversation. "Don't blame me!" he said angrily. "If we cross the viaduct too
